The Royal Mint first issued Silver Great Britannia Bullion coins in 1997. Unlike most silver coins issues during their early years, Great Britannia Silver Bullion coins from 1997 to 2012 were comprised of 95.8% silver. It wasn’t until 2013 when the Royal Mint decided to switch the content of Silver Great Britannia’s to 99.9% silver. Although the reverse of each 1 troy ounce Silver Great Britannia Bullion coin features different designs of Britannia from year to year, the obverse always depicts Queen Elizabeth II. Each silver Great Britannia Bullion 1 troy ounce coin is minted by the Royal Mint and is considered legal tender of the United Kingdom. Furthermore, regardless of date, each silver Britannia holds a face value of 2 English Pounds.
