Gold British Sovereigns were first minted by the Royal Mint in 1817 and continue to be minted today. Since their inception, Gold British Sovereigns were minted in several different designs. These designs all include Queen Victoria, King George V, King Edward VII, and Queen Elizabeth II. Each design features a man riding a horse on the obverse of the coin along with the year the coin was minted.
