Silver Water Meter 1 troy ounce rounds are the official silver round of New Orleans Silver And Gold. The coin was designed back in 2013, shortly after the company was founded in 2010. The inspiration for the design was the iconic New Orleans Sewage and Water Board maintenance hole cover design. This iconic Water Meter image was first designed by Edwin Ford in the 1920s. Today the New Orleans Water Meter design has become a world-famous image used by local artists in everything from jewelry to artwork and other consumer products.
Each 1 troy ounce Silver Water Meter bullion coin features a slightly modified design of that created by Edwin Ford in 1920. The obverse of the coin displays the same iconic water meter name and the famous moon and shooting star image across its face as Ford’s iconic image does. The difference between that image and each silver water meter coin, however, is that instead of reading sewage and water board and ford meter box co., the coin says, “One Troy Ounce” and “.999 Fine Silver”. The reverse of the coin was designed as a tribute to the wonderful city of New Orleans and featured the French phrase “Laissez les bon temps roulez”, along the top half of the coin. This phrase is well known in the crescent city for its meaning of “let the good times roll”. The bottom half of the coin read New Orleans Good Delivery and was added as a euphemism to London’s Good Delivery Standards. Each phrase is separated by two fleur-de-lis images. The center of the reverse of the coin is left intentionally blank so that owners can engrave a personalized message or image on each coin if they so decide.
