American Gold Buffalo coins were first introduced by the United States Mint in 2006. Since its introduction, the American Gold Buffalo was the first 24K coin minted by the U.S. Mint on an annual basis. Each 2025 American Gold Buffalo is struck in 99.99% fine gold. Today it remains the only 24K gold coin manufactured by the United States on a yearly basis.
The artwork on these bullion coins is a thing of beauty. The obverse of the coin depicts an image of a tribal Indian that was originally created by James Earle Fraser in 1913. On the reverse of the coin, there is a beautiful image of an American bison, more commonly known as a buffalo, standing over a pile of dirt. This image was inspired by James Earl Frazer’s earlier image depicted on the buffalo nickel.
